hardware ain't my bag, baby[1], but i'd suggest fibrechannel over firewire. fibrechannel is damn fast and works rather well under linux these days. that said, Red Hat recently GPL'd Sistina's[2] Global File System (GFS). it lays on top of LVM2 (used to be called EVMS) and allows multiple concurrent mountings. it's production quality (Sistina used to, and RH still does, charge a mint for GFS) and i assume we'll see it integrated into new distro releases within the next 12 months. with fibrechannel + GFS you should be good to go at a reasonable cost.
