I have completed a very slow kernel update for Suse. Two hours on high speed using the ucalgary mirror. Is there a better option?
the UCALGARY option is good only if youre on a university connection or on CAnet or Internet2. Commercial internet connections are throttled and metered on any campus. Yast asked me to run lilo before rebooting. I tried but found out that my bootloader is grub. you DO NOT need to rerun grub after you boot. Lilo works differently from grub - so anytime you do somethign to the kernel you need to rerun lilo for it to alter the Master boot record (or first sector of boot partition) Also the kernel version didn't change after the reboot, but the Suse icon is green and smiling. Is everything OK? this is because the kernel update doesnt change the default boot kernel - and good thing - otherwise if the new kernel causes a crash - you wouldnt know what to do with it. when Suse boot screen comes up - right after you power it on - hit the escape key a few times. youll see the grub menu showing you options to boot the specific kernel version. Try it out. If it works - once you boot up fully - use Yast to edit the boot configuration to alter the default boot kernel. _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
