I don't know if this is helpful -- out of the live cds available, people seem to really like SuSe and Knoppix but I have only had limited success with them on laptops. The one I have been impressed with is Lindows or now with their name change Linspire. It is not the greatest distro if you know Linux but for someone like myself, it was a good way to test the waters. I have been impressed with it's ability to recognized hardware and run. I don't know about the development tools.

I have both the live and the installation if you like to take it for a spin. Contact me off line and we can make arrangements. (Will likely be at the Wed meeting but I am close to downtown anyways.)
