Your Promise RAID controller isn't really anything except some extra HDD 
ports, and software, so it's not going to really work as slickly as you'd 
like, because it isn't really raid (Which sucks, because it means that if you 
boot from anything else, say a bootable CD, you won't see it as usable data, 
unless you have the driver - which you'd have if you use the kernel driver, 
but likely not if you use the proprietary one)

Typically, Linux's software RAID seems to have better performance and better 
management software than any of the propritary software RAIDs, so personally, 
I'd set up the promise card as JBOD, and then do Linux software RAID from 
there.

That's my thoughts...
