Just out of curiosity Shawn, will CLUG continue to have Progsig after this split off? How many members will still be interested? I only ever made it to one Progsig meeting but I did really enjoyed it and have considered coming out again several times. Shift work doesn't really go so well with regularly scheduled meetings though. Anyway, what I'm saying is that it would be a shame for CLUG to lose Progsig over this if there are still some interested members. I would still be interested in CLUG Progsig and hope it continues.

I was hoping you guys would reconsider. I made my thoughts about this known at the meeting, and stand by them. When I started the progsig group, it was my intent to have no costs for potential members, and to focus on the needs of our members. It was not my intent to make the group a money raising organization, or to dictate what skills any potential member needed before they joined the group.

It's late, and I'd better not say much more until my brain is fully operational (I'm getting tired). But, while I will respect your choice, I will NOT be forking over $50, and I doubt I'll be attending any more meetings if this proceeds (I'm still holding onto a glimmer of hope, probably foolishly...)

Finally, you should be finding a different name for your group - ProgSig belongs to us (CLUG), and seeing as the new group would not be affiliated with CLUG, we can probably argue a copyright to the name.

After a great deal of discussion at tonights progsig meeting, we decided
it was time to split off from CLUG and become a stand alone group. The
general sentiment was that we, as a group, needed to focus on
programming in its purest form, being platform, language, and technology
agnostic.

In order to start the process of getting organized, an ad hoc committee
was selected, consisting of Kin Wong, Janet Leong, Rob Stallard, and
William Astle. Immediately after the general progsig meeting concluded,
the ad hoc committee met and selected William as interim president. The
committee decided on the following parameters for the group:

- membership will be open to all programmers or those interested in
programming
- the membership fee will be around $50/year in order to support such
initiatives as a library for programmers
- meetings will continue on the last Thursday of the month

The ad hoc committee will be meeting in the near future to finalize
plans for the establishment of progsig as its own group.
