> This could easily be a dead > disk in a raid. That thought did cross my mind. I almost asked about how to remove a disk from a raid array. I know another partition on that disk works, I managed to create a CD image (of my /home tree) that was saved to that partition, just today.
In all my laziness I was hoping not to have to take the pc apart. I'm not really sure what a previous suggestion about trying Knoppix would accomplish, I'm guessing it auto-mounts partitions that Linux can mount. I think I have a version, I'll try. I just set this machine up < 3 weeks ago (although it's old hardware).
