Hi Al, I've read all that has been said I'd like to toss in a couple of comments/suggestions for consideration.
First, let me preface my comments by mentioning that I am a VAR (Value Added Reseller) and make my living primarily through my involvement in the IT field both in sales and by offering consulting services. Having said that I'd like to introduce and suggest for consideration a process similar to one in place on another list I subscribe to. That list has a membership with over 1000 subscribers and frequently over 175 messages a day. The CLUG-General list is a low traffic list. This process allows both individuals and vendors an opportunity to obtain, sell and give away both goods and services and should not increase the traffic noticeably. The Vendor Friday feature keeps us honest and minimizes the amount of commercial traffic while still offering a benefit to members. First I'll offer some definitions and then explain how things could work: Definitions: 1. INDIVIDUAL: a person that does not sell or offer items for sale as part of their primary source of income. 2. VENDOR: a person that sells or offers items for sale that would be sold or offered during the normal course of their business. EXAMPLE: I offer a NEW Mandrake 10.2 boxed version or a hardware item etc. 3. VENDOR FRIDAY: a day during the week where Vendors can post a SINGLE email to the list with items, products, services etc being offered. 4. VENDOR POSTING: an email from a Vendor detailing items being offered for sale or links to the Vendors site. ................................................... Example 1: I want to offer for sale my USED SUSE 9.2 boxed version. Note that this is a USED item that I was using but no longer need. I post an email to the list as follows: To: CLUG-General SUBJECT: SALE: Used SUSE 9.2 Boxed Set BODY: For Sale, 1 boxed set of SUSE 9.2 consisting of 5 CD's, 1 DVD, a User and an Administrator's manual. USED Cost $10.00 OBO. Please email me OFF LIST or by phone @ nnn-nnnn. Seller Name nnn-nnnn [EMAIL PROTECTED] ................................................... Example 2: I want to offer for sale a NEW boxed version. Note that this is a NEW item that I have obtained or have access and is intended to be offered specifically for resale. I post an email to the list as follows: To: CLUG-General SUBJECT: VENDOR FRIDAY - SALE: NEW Boxed Mandrake 10.3 BODY: For Sale, 1 boxed set of NEW Boxed Mandrake 10.3 5 CD/1 DVD Set as well as a User and Administrator's manual. Cost $110.00. Please email me OFF LIST or by phone @ nnn-nnnn. Seller Name Company Name nnn-nnnn [EMAIL PROTECTED] .............................................. Example 3: I want to buy something. Comments recommendations etc are posted back to the list for all to see. To: CLUG-General SUBJECT: WANTED - Hard Drive SATA 300 GB 8 MB Cache BODY: I'm looking for a good hard drive.
