I wonder how many KDE/Gnome features have been added as a direct result of
'borrowing' an idea from Apple (or Microsoft for that matter). Look at
Gnome 2.10, the 'Connect to Server' feature, I've seen that feature before
(http://tinyurl.com/chzxh). Who would like to see another aqua knockoff
theme? No thanks. I've heard KDE plans to integrate a new system search,
can you say Apple's spotlight?

Yes, Apple has paid engineers that have nothing better to do that try to
innovate and move the GUI forward, whereas mostly the OS community is
doing it in spare time/goodwill. In my opinion besides a very short list,
the Linux desktop is not very innovative at all. Rather all I see is a few
features being added by standing on the shoulders of giants. I'd have to
give Gnome more credit for at least trying.

Without putting too much thought into it, here's the list of real
innovation. What else is there? There's gotta be more. But not many.

- virtual desktops
- fish://
- the freedom to select an entirely different desktop

How 'bout a real clipboard? Why replicate Windows Explorer and rename it
Konqueror? Combine a browser and file explorer, original?
