I have to agree that many people coming to a CLUG meeting for the first
(second or third) time who do not understand the concepts of OS/FLOSS
may not hear the same thing (possible FUD) that a veteran Linux user
will hear from this presentation.

I believe that it would be like inviting a trained spin doctor into a
group meeting and letting them take the centre stage. (no offence meant
to Mr. Jeans). I have wondered to myself - as Jarrod has also mentioned
- if letting VMWare do their presentation last year was opening a door
to the type of presentations that do not necessarily reflect what the
Calgary Linux Users Group was formed for.

There were some heated and passionate conversations not too long ago
that discussed the idea of returning CLUG to its roots and having more
presentations from OS/FLOSS developers. My own opinion is that this
presentation could be going too far in the other direction.

It would be very unfortunate for a nube to come to a meeting only to
walk away with the impression (or confirmation) that only using closed
source products like MS is the way to go.

My 2 cents (for what they are worth:)

PS =-) I want to commend the Executive on looking for new and
interesting presentations and in fact by suggesting this presentation
they have sparked a great discussion. Thanks guys!!

Kari
