Actually the way BT is supposed to work is :
Say theres 5 peers & 1 seed, peers are A->E, seed is S. Lets say theres 3
parts to the file, 1->3. Assume its a new torrent and S is the only one who
has any of it.
{This is not a serial list, many of these will obviously be concurrent}
S sends A part 1
S sends B part 2
A sends B part 1
S sends C part 3
C sends B part 3
A sends C part 1
B sends C part 2
etc...until everyone has the whole file. Of course it's more complex than
that, with multiple thousands of pieces and clients logging in and out
constantly. However it doesn't send everyone the same pieces, therefore
unless there are 0 seeds it shouldn't stall out the way you described. I have
been on torrents with hundreds of peers and very few seeds and still got
awesome transfer rates. I open my upstream wide open and the system rewards
me for it.
It'd be nice to be on a BT with 5000 seeds and 3 peers, but it's not
realistic. Generally I allow my share ratio to get > 1 before I turn it off.
Im a big fan of BT :) if used right, its awesome.
