Under Fedora Core 3, I have the following installed: gstreamer-plugins-extra-audio-0.8.6-2.1.fc3.fr gstreamer-plugins-0.8.5-1 gstreamer-plugins-extra-dvd-0.8.6-2.1.fc3.fr gstreamer-0.8.7-4.FC3.0 gstreamer-plugins-extra-video-0.8.6-2.1.fc3.fr and it plays mp3's no problem. I also installed xmms- mp3-1.2.10-11.1.1.fc3.rf so that xmms can play mp3's.
