My brother Mel came over and ran the installation program. He did not 
know what I did wrong, but he made all the correct choices in the
installation, and I now have libranet 3.0 working and my printer is
working again.

What I did wrong in my installation will forever be a mystery, but Mel
was able to get it going. I am now composing this reply from Thunderbird
mail client in libranet 3.0.
