This is certainly taking the moral high-road and I highly endorse the idea. This is actually one of the reasons why I love using Linux and OpenSource software, freedom from guilt. I get to use these applications for whatever I want. If I want to pay back the developers there are usually some means of contributing (even monetarily) to the development. As I said maybe it is just a matter of all of us chipping away at it.
