As a relatively new entry into the World of Linux I haven't had the
chance to look at all the available Distros. Recently, I've been looking
at Linspire and have come to the conclusion that anyone who believes
that Linux isn't ready for the desktop hasn't taken the time to look
closely at Linspire. Admittedly, Linspire is not as full featured as
some Distros but then again it's not pretending to be. With only the
apps necessary to satisfy the general desktop user a complete
installation on a Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz system with a5112 MB RAM and a 160
GB HDD took 16 minutes and 22 seconds to have a complete working system!!
I've had a few friends look at Linspire and the comments have been
nothing but positive. In one case I shipped a Linspire box, sight
unseen, to a customer in Port Hardy BC. I followed up two days later
only to find that any concerns I had were totally unwarranted. The
transition time for a now Ex-Windows user was minimal. I've had a few
people with varying experience levels try out Linspire and all have
spoken positively about it. If you've been tempted to try Linspire but
have not wanted to shell out the $$$ for it here's your chance to do so
for free!
The link at the bottom of this post will take you to a site that details
what's been happening recently. Linspire, in order to give users a true
"Linspire" experience has decided to, for a limited time, give anyone a
100% discount coupon for the digital download of Linspire 5.0. This is a
full non-expiring version of their currently shipping OS. If you like
what you see you can sign up for their "Click and Run" service for the
easiest downloads or use the standard Debian download methods to add
applications to your system. A word to the wise however, updates using
other than Linspire's CNR Warehouse are not supported by their tech
support staff.
To pick up your free coupon just skip over to http://freespire.jasp.com/
and follow the directions.
Don't hesitate to post your thoughts and comments either here or on my
blog..
Enjoy!
