If and when you decide to go ahead, I recommend using Frundable.org to
raise the funds. It gives a nice centralized place for people to
donate using a variety of credit cards or Paypal. Further, you have to
select a target date for the campaign to end. If the target isn't
reached by the end date then everyone gets their money back.

Cool system.
