The shaw ips appear on more than one RBL (for dynamic/residential
service) and many providers will not send and or recieve email from
those IPs.

Another common problem is that your DNS is incorectly configured.
SPecifically you need an MX record to tell other mail servers what your
mail server IP is. You can google for dns check to find some web based
pages to check your dns for you. You can also use nslookup or host,
depending on the OS and (and version). The type of query is usally MX.

DNS can be confusing at first. I can not recommend enough the O'Reilly
Bind and DNS book. Even windows admins should read this book as DNS is
probably the #1 thing that is screwed with any network that I get called
to fix, be it windows, *nix, or God forbid Mac based. For the Microsoft
people lurking on this list *GET DNS RIGHT*. The underscore "_" does
NOT belong in a hostname. Even if exchange lets you, it is still WRONG!

Sorry about that, badly configured DNS is a bit of a touchyg subject,
especially since I just spent a few hours with a horribly configured
windows server :)

So, shaw does not (yet) block port 25, but the likely culprit is DNS or
spam filtering. One more thing to check is that your MTA (mail program
on the server) is configured to accept email for your domain. There are
a lot of programs that do this, but telnet localhost 25 and it should
say in the banner along the top what MTA is being used, it is likely
exim, postfix, or sendmail.

Eg:
telnet localhost 25
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 nexus.echostar.ca ESMTP Exim 4.50 Mon, 07 Nov 2005 15:11:21 -0700
                            ^^^^
Cheers
