Well Michael, What was the file extension you gave you compressed file, if you do not specify the extension, i see it will default to zip, and i am not sure if zip will handle large archive files. you should use .tar.gz or a .tar.bz2. Now the second reason could well be, defaulting to zip, and the zip compressor not being available on your system. try the .tar.gz , that is more likely to be available on a Debian. The third potential problem may well be that you dont have sufficient free disk space where you are trying to create your archive file. Also check the size of /tmp . tmp needs to be large enough to hold allmost the entire compressed archive i think, but i could be wrong here. Cheers Szemir
