FYI, on a recent kernel with kubuntu/debian, you can supply the device
path for the dev= option.  On my laptop this would be /dev/hdc, so the
command above looks like:

 cdrecord -v -dao speed=32 dev=/dev/hdc KANOTIX-2005-03.iso

Also, I used cdrecord -scanbus -dev=/dev/hdc to identify my burner, all
other -dev options fail.

Having said all that, I use k3b 90% of the time.  It works out of the
box unless you have a messed up kernel (which means that likely you
broke it... unless you are running Red Hat... )

As always, YMMV depending on the usual suspects (Distro, hardware, blah
blah blah)
