I was able to instal lthe headers, but I don't have another machine to SSH
into. What is the command-line 'net browser I can use to get the right
driver?

For K/Ubuntu, install the kernel headers.  This sounds harder than it is:

aptitude install kernel-headers

should download and install everything that need.  You may also need to
install build-essential as well.
