I have had mixed results using the wine-tools packaged with Debian (and in 
this case kubuntu).

At any rate, after installing IE via crossover the problem reappears.  Running 
the crossover uninstall script corrects the problem.  

Since I paid for it, I can get support for crossover, which I intend to do.
