Hi Michael,

Check in the Skype settings to make sure the correct device is selected. This 
would be under  Tools > Options.

I know with my headset (a Logitech USB), I have to go into the options in 
Skype and select  /dev/dsp1 under Audio devices (Hand/Headset tab) for the 
calls, whereas /dev/dsp is my main sound card.
