Hello All, I decided to try something different and it worked!
I noticed that there were a number of microphone icons at the right of my tool bar at the bottom of my screen. So I right clicked on each item and clicked on close on the image that popped up. Once all the microphone icons were gone I rebooted, and discovered that there were no more multiple skype sessions irritating me at boot up :) Thanks for all the help.
