Problems with line signal strength can also give you funny IP address' when
connecting with Shaw's new cable modems.

At one time I was getting 192.168.x.x or perhaps 10.10.x.x addresses when
connected directly! A call to Shaw explained it all.

To say the least I was somewhat confused for a while.

Cheers,

I picked up a wired Linksys router (BEFSR81) and connected it. And it
exhibited the same problem! ie, could get Internet connectivity but no
name resolution. And when I looked at the Linksys status page the DNS
severs were set to 0.0.0.0.
