Thanks for the feedback Aaron.
they still aren't overly marketing savvy when it comes to the community,
however, but they are good people and certainly friends of open source even
if they don't have an FSF-compatible viewpoint on the world ;)
decide to feel how you will about them, but they aren't the devil IMHO and
certainly not deserving of the shit-kicking they got in that article. i
really do with the community was a little less self-destructive at times.

the people there personally, some of whom i count as friends)

I have been following Groklaw for quite some time and have found that for the most part
her articles seemed fairly balanced. This article however did seem excessively harsh
bordering on vitriolic.
I agree that in trying to promote Linux, we must avoid painting as "bad guys" those that
hold slightly different viewpoints than our own. There are enough "bad guys" out there that are
trying destroy Linux, and these are the ones that we should be heaping our scorn on.
There is certainly room for debate on the inclusion of proprietary software and drivers in
distributions. If the philosophy of one distribution is not to our liking we are certainly free
to avoid that distribution and try another that conforms to our own philosophy.
Linspire's pragmatic philosophy seems to be encouraging many no-technical people to use Linux.
If they are successful in their goal then I believe that we we all benefit from better software
even if we are not using their distribution.
