It depends, likely for the average end user, it looks like a step in a good direction. For those of use using Jack for media production, I worry that it will be something else that gets in the way. You don't currently need aRTS. Personally I disable arts and use things like the xine engine or gstreamer for audio rendering in apps like Amarok. Xine can be configured to use Alsa (by configured I mean you click on a checkbox) which allows the sound device to be shared. If you only have OSS (the sound driver, not OPen Source) then the sound card cannot be shared (ie used by two programs at the same time), though ALSA is the default in most modern and sane distros (Alsa is now built directly into the stock 2.6 kernel). -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.1 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFEW5MVwRXgH3rKGfMRAvZ3AJ4kGALBWp3gASDUDmGOPpIYJO1cBACcCrbr rxTnCcNPwc+9xwU9KsZ+SJU= =DSVO -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
