in /etc/ there should be a .conf file, the entry that points to the
actual device /dev/ttyS0 is a common one that points to the old serial
port.  You may need to change this, /dev/ttyUSB0 may be the correct one.
 It may also be a permission thing, ls -la /dev/<device> will show you.
