-no- kicker applets have a "remove" option in their right click menu; until 
3.5 it wasn't even possible for an applet to remove itself at all even if it 
wanted to. still, all applets are removed the same way: by right clicking on 
the panel somewhere or clicking on the applet's handle itself.
