-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have Kubuntu running as a server at home. There was a server option that did not install the GUI. This was originally a hoary install (I did an in place upgrade to breezy, I have not had the time to move it to dapper).
I use Debian in production and there are a few differences between Sarge and KUbuntu. Sarge tends to be really stable but the price is that the packages are all older, so you do not get the latest and greatest features. If it is a fast machine (P3 1 GHz or better) the GUI won't slow you down noticeably. You can always turn the GUI off/on at will with this command: /etc/init.d/kdm stop/start Kin Wong wrote: > Would you use Kubuntu for server or is this more for desktop? > > I have come across Sarge -- is one of the reasons why it is quick to > install and configure that the install is text based. > > Still feel the need for a crutch -- is a gui interface like KDE recommended? > > _______________________________________________ > clug-talk mailing list > [email protected] > http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca > Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) > **Please remove these lines when replying -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2.2 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFEiEzHwRXgH3rKGfMRAiOAAJ0Ue4xllv0d+u9eZs1oCRQ2Epd+CgCdHBOb wTLhltgDIPPtDNgQVAjRrr0= =C0Ja -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
