I half agree with this.
But there is a constant case of armchair quarter-backing with volunteer events like this. Many people are willing to chime in and give their 2 cents worth, but almost no one is willing to actually take steps to see that events are planned, speakers are confirmed, etc etc. This year's event was only made possible by a few people actually (fanatically) following through with items brought up at planning meetings.
I strongly encourage all members and enthousiasts, Tiers 1 and 2, to not only suggest topics/speakers/venues, but to actually take a "burden" on themselves and help out. We don't need more planners. We DO need more people willing to "sacrifice" time and, yes, in some cases money, in order to get things done.
Hypocritically, this is my 2 cents. If people want LinuxFest 2007 to rock the proverbial casba, then step up, grab the mic, and wail my friends.
Not wanting to sound pissy, just calling things as I see them.

Hi all,
I would agree with Roy's general sentiment that we should be starting to
think about this sooner than later.
I felt that the 2K6 was arranged a bit late... although since I wasn't
directly involved with organisation prehaps it's not really my place to
comment.
I think that the 2K7 fest would be better served if 'we' could get the
programme confirmed at least 2 months ahead, and by that I mean 'fixed'
with confirmed speakers.
We need to be able to plug the event continuously from around Jan/Feb
to get the maximum turn out. Being 'last minute' increases the stress
and makes the event look amerturish.
Here's hoping for a 'cracking good' event next year,
Simon.
