Hi Sig, What you are asking (I think) is not an easy task, and will probably consume vast chunks of bandwidth.
The basic elements that you list are: high quality real time compression on video/audio archiving (presumably of compressed streams) distribution to multiple destinations No experience, but here are couple of links... For general streaming you could look into icecast (www.icecast.org) which will take an MPEG audio stream and distribute it to as many destinations that connect. There is a HOWTO here about streaming video: http://www.oddsock.org/guides/video.php Another possible way to achieve this could be using Video conferencing, using a conference server and some SIP (??) client, such as Ekiga (shameless plug). This is not quite what you were asking for, but would allow the back channel for discussion and SIP provides a simple 'text messaging' capability. I did hear that somebody was doing some interesting conferencing stuff with an associated web-page to act as a control/request to talk channel. But don't have a link... :-( There's some comment here of a flash based 'solution': http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+bounty+Meet+Me+video+conferencing Sounds like an interesting problem, I'd love to hear about your solution.
