I was actually looking for something similar for a project I am doing at
home. I have scoured the sites people have mentioend so far but I don't
think I am getting the answer I need.

I am looking to replace as many components in the a default Windows
installation with free (preferably open source) software. If it is
cross-compatible between Linux, Windows & Mac, even better. If anyone
has any suggestions I would appreciate it. If you feel it falls in the
OT category then place e-mail off-list. I have replaced some already
with some pretty good candidates but the following are still outstanding:
* Phone Dialer
* Hyper Terminal
* Calculator
* Character Map: Sprankle?
* Clipboard Viewer
* Paint: Maybe Tux Paint?
* Wordpad: I think Abiword would work, but maybe a bit too bloated?
* Object Packager
* Games:
* CD Player/Sound Recorder/Volume Control: I currently have software
that goes with the Creative Labs soundcard. I thought Audacity would
work, but might be to big.
* Imaging (Image Viewer, Active X Custom Control & Twain Support): No
freaking clue where to start looking.
* Notepad: Scintilla, Notepad++, JuJuedit. I have used Programmers
Notepad in the past and like it.
* Shockwave Player: gnash. Has a plugin for FF & Konq I believe, but I
wonderred if it would work in IE?
* Flash Player: gnash
* Media Players: I came across Real & Quicktime Alternative (also
includes Media Player Classic) but I am not sure if they are open source

Obviously I may not be able to replace all of them, but it would be
interesting to see how many can be repalced.

Thanks in advance for anyones help.

Cameron
