I don't think you can really compare KMail and Evo as KMail is just a mail client and Evo is a PIM. I think it would be more correct to compare the Kontact PIM suite (which includes KMail as the mail component) and Evo. Now you've got apples to apples.
I've used both Kontact and Evolution as clients and I've found Kontact to be much faster, easier to set up, and more stable. It's my humble opinion that Evolution is a total dog. It's big, it's slow, and it's unstable. I don't have any PIM requirements that my Palm Treo doesn't fullfil do I don't use either Kontact or Evolution on a daily basis, but I still prefer Kontact.
