Hi Folks,

For the past few months I have been using Mandriva 2006 Powerpack 32 bit
version on a PC with an AMD 64 processor. I have recently installed Mandriva
2007 Powepack and I'm having problems which the Mandriva experts can't seem to
solve.

First, during the boot sequence just before the window asking for my username
and password a window appears asking me to: choose my language, agree to the
license, specify my keyboard, etc. i.e. the same window that appears late in
the install sequence. I can bypass this by clicking on "Cancel" but it's still
a nuisance.

Second, One of my important applications is a program called "gretl". When I
went to re-install gretl 1.6.0 from the tar.bz2 file the ./configure step
seemed to work fine. But make failed with the message:
"/usr/bin/ld skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libdl.so when searching for -ldl
/usr/lib/libxml2.so: could not read symbols: File in wrong format
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
    make[1]: *** [libgretl-1.0.la] Error 1
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/robin/gretl/gretl-home/gretl-1
.6.0/lib'
    make: *** [lib] Error 2"

The gent who developed gretl suggested
"Well, it looks as if there's some collision going on between 32-and 64-bit
version of shared libraries here. You may need to set the environment variable
LB_LIBRARY_PATH to ensure that the 64-bit version is picked up first."

Could someone please tell me how to do that?

I would be grateful for any help you can give me.

Robin
