My gut feel would be that if the hardware is supported, then you should 
be fine.  Check the wireless, nic, sound, and video card.  I doubt 
anything else will matter.

There are a few Gateway MX-types on Linux-on-Laptops. Not your specific 
model, but you may find that your model has a different number in the 
US. My Dell Inspiron 9400 in Canada is the exact same laptop as the Dell
e1505 in the US, for example.
