If the team or individual leading the workshop was comfortable with both
environments this could be doable. The problem is that we cannot
guarantee that both will be covered for a given workshop as it depends
on the skill set and familiarity of the "experts".

As I see it, this will be driven by the team leading the workshop on a
case by case basis. I would not want to dictate distros to the kind
souls donating their time and energy.

As an aside, RPM distros vary within themselves more than the Debian
based ones do. The differences between SuSe and Red Hat are more
significant than between Xandros and Ubuntu.

My experiences at previous workshops is that this sort of thing chews up
way too much time, at the expense of the actual topic, unless that topic
is "exploring the differences between distro X and distro Y". :)

I personally do not see much benefit to this comparison. I like to
focus on accomplishing a given task, rather than get lost in myriad
number of implementations (apache configs are unorganised quite
differently between Red Hat, SuSe, and the Debians).

I am not against covering more than one distro, but we need to be
mindful of people's time (both the experts and the audience), which
means we need to realistically asses our resources against our goals.
If this means not covering distro X, then so be it.

Of course this presents a lot of opportunity for presentations at our
monthly meetings (ie. since distro X was not covered/represented at the
workshop, here is a presentation on accomplishing Task Z on Distro X).
