I was at Staples a couple of weeks ago, just before the Jan 30th Vista Launch.
The salesman was bragging that they had a system up and running easily with
Vista and no problems. I told him of the articles I'd read about hardware
incompatibilities even with "Vista Certified" parts and problems running even
store bought DVDs. He denied any problems and took me to the machine. It was an
HP machine. He took a brand name Ice Age2 DVD sitting beside it, put it in and
it promptly failed to load or run. A nice error message took up half the
screen. Case closed. I won't touch Vista for a long time. Almost every system
at work is W2K except for one on WinXP Pro. Microshaft has put so much into
Vista to prevent piracy that it's screwing up everything else. I know a couple
of people who have been running Beta RC Vista and liked it, but it's way too
finicky for me.
