:) I have no idea what a deep AD ACL is even hehe. I thought about running FreeNAS in VMware. But I'm wondering - how would one hook it up to drives on the host machine?

There's a FreeNAS VM available. We've attempted to integrate it into one of our sites, but the Windows permissions are not all they're touted to be. The author has acknowledged that there are problems with the AD ACLs which I believe he is hoping to fix in the next version. Of course, if you don't need deep AD ACLs, then you might not care.
