First, I am quite capable of taking shots on the chin and maybe I could have supplied the link to the blog. I'm learning and I will make mistakes. Like I said, I likely have less time than Dave and I did spend 2 hours composing a reasonably thoughtful blog to let people know what my intentions were and to see if anything resonated with the group. What would have been really helpful would be comments like, "yes, let's get LinuxFest started again" or even "Oh no, not LinuxFest, it is such a lost cause" or that list of topics that Shawn had posted for workshops, here are three that I would like to see happen right away.
Secondly, Kevin is right in a public forum that we do need to mind our p's and q's. This is one of the reasons why people still fly half way around the world for a face to face meeting, because written language can be misconstrued easily particularly when it is informal as in an email. 90% of the message is not through verbal communication, it is through body language and we are missing that here. The key things that we are trying to do here is increase the membership / participation and advance Linux and FOSS. This type of exchange does not advance the purpose of the group and for people that are new, it is already intimidating enough without this type of obstacle. Thirdly, self policing is the best remedy for public forums, so we all have a role in maintaining order. Just my perspective as a member. _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
