The two things I dislike about XAMPP is that upgrading is a manual
process, and we mere mortals naturally have problems turning someday
into today (or any other specific day).

The second is that you do not gain an appreciation of how the various
components work together.  For web developers (especially in a testing
environment), I do not see this as a problem.  For system administrators
it smacks of the bad kind of laziness.
