Basically most modern Linux distros have support for network emulation.
 The site above is essentially the documentation for this functionality.
 It is a pretty handy tool kit to have around.

All the talk of NFS, CIFS etc, reminded my of my attempts to tune and
improve my NFS experience.  Although I was never able to get a
satisfactory result via NFS, I did learn a lot.
