Hi Folks, I have an 80GB external HD which I use for backups. Recently I left it running all night while rm -rf was cleaning up a lot of junk. In the morning the power light had gone out, although the switch was still in the "on" position, and it wouldn't mount. Also the case was quite hot. After it cooled down it worked fine.
Is this a sign that the drive is failing or is it just that it overheated and shut itself off? Robin
