You are correct, however, I always tried to use single density as double density and did so with limited success. However, when the DSHD (double sided high density) came out, I tried using DSDD as DSHD with atrocious results. The DSHD disks used a cobalt coating which had much better performance.
The SSSD could pass off as DSSD because both sides of the mylar was manufactured in the process but only one side was tested and verified so frequently the other side was likely good. If I remember correctly, the success of using SD as DD was with reasonable success. Why are we talking about floppies anyway? ----- Original Message ----- From: "sgrover" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "CLUG General" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, September 18, 2007 10:54:06 PM (GMT-0700) America/Denver Subject: Re: [clug-talk] Floppy Disks One minor correction... Notching a single-sided/single-density disk would result in a double-sided/single-density disk. (not double density). Or has my memory gotten tooooo hazy on this? I was only a teen at the time.. :) Shawn Kin Wong wrote: > I am starting to feel really old now. The notch was to allow the floppy to > flipped over to use the other side.
