Robin,
I don`t think so. I know that Debian and Ubuntu will automatically load the
drive when you plug it in. If I remember correctly it will be mounted as -t
vfat (think windows FAT) so you can transfer files and access these files in
either Windows or Linux.

I use Slackware (I see no reason to change) and most times I have mount it
manually...
