Starting Your Own High Tech Company: Notes from the Trenches

Description
The ever advancing field of Computer Science creates a constant stream of 
opportunities for energetic Entrepreneurs. New and innovative ideas can be 
converted into a highly valued business, often with low cost of entry and 
small teams. But a good idea is the easiest part! Selecting the team, 
defining the scope, staying the course and actually selling your product 
will be a far greater challenge. Guest speaker, Neil Buckley will share his 
experiences, mistakes and insight's gained over 20 years of experience in 
business.

Buckley graduated from SAIT with a diploma in Business Administration, 
Accounting Major in 1984 and a degree in Computer Science from the 
University of Calgary in 1989. He joined Merak Projects, a Calgary based 
software development company that same year. He went on to form Merak and 
Associates, a company specializing in custom software and engineering 
services. In 2000, he was involved in the creation of OpenSpirit, a joint 
venture company between Chevron, Shell and Schlumberger to develop a common 
computing framework for the Geo-Science community. In 2003 he co-founded 
Enersight, a company specializing in web based production modeling and 
economic evaluation software for the oil and gas industry.

Admission:  FREE, though donations accepted to support the Computer Science 
Alumni Endowment (currently over $12,000, paying a $600/year scholarship) 
and future events.
