It's kinda old news (2007) but I just saw today that there are some
motherboards from ASUS that come shipped with embedded Linux as a boot
option.  It is promoted as an alternative to booting Windows ("Instant
Internet Access without Entering Windows!") just to do
email/IM/youtube.  The "distro" is Splashtop.

Now for the "what were they thinking" moment... you have to boot into
Windows to update it!  Anyway, it seems like a cool feature that I
hope to see catch on.
