Hey All, I have an older IMac...blue and white one piece unit (350 Mhz processor & 256 ram I believe..I likely have extra sticks around to upgrade) that I want to set-up Linux on. I believe it only has a CD drive on it so a bootable DVD won't work.
I have been playing around with some the ?buntu stuff so would like to try a different distro on it to get some exposure to that as well. I was thinking of OpenSuse but the only download I can get access to is a DVD image. Anyone have a repository for a bootable install (not live) CD or any suggestions? I have also seen a reference to a Add-Ons disk as well, but am not sure what that is. I am looking at making it a kitchen computer for simple tasks and such for both Lisa & I. As far as functionality I am looking at the following: * Simple office docs * Listening/Viewing Media (MP3's, Videos, possibly flash animations * Accessing recipies * Entering finances (initially quicken, but looking for a good cross-platform open source solution)...this is minor at this point * Simple games...solitare'ish type things * Camming....this would be a maybe...definitely not critical * Simple user interface. I doubt I would need a KDE or a Gnome and so was thinking of XFCE, but if I could get either working on there at a good speed..great! It does have an ethernet jack but I really don't feel like running cables all over the house. Will likely do so as the first stage, but would eventually like to do wireless eventually. I have been using TrendNet stuff so far. _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
