I do one better: I bought a SeaGate FreeAgent 500GB USB drive and it ran 
fine under both Windows(Vista Ultimate) and [K]ubuntu. All of the sudden 
Windows stopped recognizing the drive (i.e the OS sees the drive; but it 
assumes it's empty), while [K]ubuntu sees the whole thing. The SeaGate 
site says among other thing, that the drive should be -reformatted as a 
last ditch effort to get it to work on Windows--The problem is, I do not 
have a second 500GB drive to transfer the data from the first one. So 
for now, I only use it in [K]ubuntu (and copy anything worth saving to 
it under [K]ubuntu from the Windows partition)...
