In addition to this, the default Xandros was not really meant to be messed with. Even the 4GB version is a little tight if you want a Linux box to play with. What I did instead is install a full version of xubuntu onto an 8 Gig SDHC card which is more hacker friendly. Press ESC as the eeePC boots gets you a boot menu, which you can then boot from the SD card. I pretty much agree with the rest of what Mark said. It is easier if you have a project goal that you are working towards. The details of mount, fstab etc. tend to be components that you will need to master along the way anyway. I now use my eeePC as a network auditing tool. If you come to the meeting tomorrow I will be demonstrating some of the security tools that Ubuntu provides (sort of an attempt to tie our Defcon trip to Linux). I also have a good book that gives you an introduction to Linux and Bash scripting. If I can find it, it is yours for the low price of a book review for CLUG :) I also highly recommend the Linux journal. There is an ongoing article piece that steps you through writing a Movie trivia game in Bash that is played via Twitter. A very good exercise if this sort of thing is of interest at all. I highly recommend getting a subscription to LJ (instead of buying off the shelf) so that you can look at the previous articles online. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFIvcE+wRXgH3rKGfMRAheHAKCPKmBX+lOxC/AlYxIKCLCaVJESqgCfRMLk G5jzGeUyRnF8vLbthy/zasI= =ZG1L -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
