Hi,

Update on the 1430: It's older than I thought - I bought it in '03 so
it's probably not going to be much use to anyone.

On that note - check Staples. They have the ML-2510 for $49.xx until
Tuesday. I had to drive to Okotoks to get one (for the wife & kids) but
that's not really that far from my place. It's basically the 2009 model
of the 1430 - and it's hard to beat that price.

My replacement printer is a Brother HL-4040CDN. It's a big bast*rd -
close to 70lbs and takes up a fair chunk of that table. I'll need to
find a new place for my scanner.

Being network enabled (Cat-5) it brings me closer to decommissioning one
of my older computers. I think I just need to move the scanner, media
server and DHCP/DNS server over and I should be close to done.

The consumables for the Brother cost more than the Kyocera. There was
close to a $500 difference between the cost of the two printers - that's
enough to buy two sets of high-yield cartridges for the Brother off the
internet. I think by then it's at the end of it's usable life (to me
anyways) so I should come out even hopefully.

According to this:
http://www.openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Brother-HL-4040CDN
it works perfectly. I haven't had time to check it with Linux yet
(Windows works fine). I should have time to play with it tonight.

Cheers,
J.J.
