I'll bow to more expert advice that is likely coming, but I'll take a stab at this.

The routing table above says the gateway for both your subnets is 0.0.0.0 AND that destination 0.0.0.0 has a gateway pointing to each of the subnets.

It would seem to me this is not right. The gateway for 10.10.20.0 *should* be an ip on the 10.10.20.x subnet. OR you need to set up routing between the subnets if you want a common gateway.

But it appears the core problem is that when both devices are up, the gateways get confused.

Of course, it's been a long time since I worried about routing at this level, so I could be way off... But, hope this points you in the the general direction you need.
